As per a recent report, it has been uncovered that a discussion about cancer genome evolution is going to be held at a well known science event i. e. the annual meeting of American Association for the Advancement of Science this year.

The report has revealed that the meeting is held each year and this year it would be a four day event, comprising seminars, workshops, symposia and lectures. Along with it, there would be poster sessions covering areas of education, science and technology.

It has been found that Professor Mike Stratton, who is the Director of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, and colleagues, have been carrying out a Cancer Genome Project since the year 2000. The project is aimed at understanding processes of mutagenesis and it is being said that Mike Stratton has decided to conduct a discussion over the same in the upcoming event.

The director and professor, Mike has told that the research has proved helpful in finding out what is the reason for the growth of cancer tumours in humans. He also told that the research was basically aimed to find new cancer genes as well as how abnormalities of cancer genomes were affected by genome structure.

He affirmed on being asked about his participation and speech in the meeting with the theme 'Flattening the World: Building the Global Knowledge Society'. "The American Association for the Advancement of Science is the world's largest general scientific society. To be asked to give a talk on my research at the annual meeting is a great honour", he said.

The reporters were further told that he would be speaking on COSMIC i. e. a catalogue of genetic mutations, rearrangements and copy number changes, which lead to the development of cancer. It has been told by him that it is a tool that has been developed by the team for researchers.
