N. Ireland man accused of planting 100-pound bomb (AP)

DUBLIN ? A suspected Irish Republican Army dissident has been arraigned on a charge of planting a 100-pound (45-kilogram) car bomb outside the courthouse in Londonderry, Northern Ireland's second-largest city.

Police say DNA evidence links 49-year-old Eamon Cassidy to the bomb found in March 2011 packed into a beer keg inside a car. The vehicle was parked across the street from Londonderry Magistrates Court.

At Tuesday's hearing in the same building, a prosecutor said British Army experts defused the bomb. He said the bomb included a homemade detonator, a small core of commercial explosive, and a main explosive charge composed of fertilizer and sugar.

Cassidy did not enter a plea. He was ordered held without bail. His next court appearance is March 8.
